After seven weeks of intense competition, the final of the 2016 Workers Cup is just days away. A capacity crowd is expected at Al Ahli Stadium, as Gulf Contracting Company take on Taleb Group in the finale on Friday, May 6.
Both the teams have worked hard to reach the showpiece event, with Gulf Contracting Company coming through a penalty shoot-out in their semi-final against Mowasalat. So far, they’ve only conceded a solitary goal in the tournament, which is now in its fourth year.
Taleb Group, meanwhile, had to beat last year’s winners MIDMAC Contracting Company in the quarterfinals. They then edged past the high-scoring Larsen & Toubro in their semi-final, a game witnessed by visiting FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
Throughout the tournament, which began on March 18 in front of a 5,000-strong crowd, the fans have created a vibrant atmosphere, and the final should be no different. To add to the occasion, there’ll be entertainers, music and acrobats, as well as free refreshments and noisemakers for workers cheering their colleagues on.
Fans can soak up the excitement of the day from 3pm, with the third place play-off between Mowasalat and Larsen & Toubro scheduled for 4:45pm.
The final itself kicks off at 6:45pm. (SC.qa)
