The State of Qatar demanded an Asian mechanism that regulates humanitarian aid, stressing that the old ideas of military and security solutions were no longer useful.
This came during Qatar’s statement at the 5th regular CICA foreign ministers’ meeting, which was held in Beijing. The statement was read out by Assistant Foreign Minister for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Sultan al-Muraikhi.
The official stressed the need for a new security approach that takes into consideration economic co-operation, whether by building new road networks or joint economic projects that benefit the people of Asia.
He also called on establishing new mechanisms for counter-terrorism and resolving crises.
Al-Muraikhi added that Qatar supports China’s silk road and maritime silk road. He added that the initiative will help improve the global economic integration.
The Qatari official noted that it was the first time Qatar was participating in the meeting, as the country gained membership in May 2014.
He added that the participation of Qatar this year enhances its role in CICA.
He said Qatar will act as a bridge between CICA and Arab countries.
