Msheireb Properties, a subsidiary of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, will showcase the integral link of its flagship project Msheireb Downtown Doha with traditional Qatari culture, architecture and sustainable living at the Heritage Day celebrations.
Heritage Day, being organised by Qatar Foundation from tomorrow, is a celebration of the nation’s rich history and traditions and aims to explore the different aspects of Qatar’s culture. The event aims to promote awareness on Msheireb Downtown Doha, the world’s first sustainable downtown regeneration project and its commitment to preserving Qatari architecture and culture through pioneering initiatives and sustainable
innovations.
An array of colourful activities will be held as part of the event, and visitors will be provided insights on how traditional Qatari architecture and styles influenced the project and learn about key sustainability features incorporated in the project that has helped create a template for future generations.
Abdulla Hassan al-Mehshadi, chief executive officer, Msheireb Properties, said: “The Heritage Day is a compelling platform to celebrate the cultural heritage and rich history of our nation. At the event, we are putting the spotlight on how Qatari culture and architecture have served as the inspiration and guiding force of Msheireb Downtown Doha. We are underlining the sustainability features of our development that positions it as a model for urban regeneration.”
A wide range of edutainment activities will be held for the public including students during the Heritage Day celebrations. These include distribution of pictures of flowers to students to identify the meaning; creating patterns using recycled materials; developing a Masharabiya pattern using paper strings; and making a huge Masharabiya
