HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul yesterday. The Emir is in Istanbul to take part in the  13th edition of Islamic Summit Conference of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC), being held under the theme of “Unity and Solidarity for Justice and Peace”. Last night, the Emir attended a dinner banquet hosted  by President Erdogan in honour of heads of delegations of Muslim countries participating in the summit. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Tuesday said the summit was being held at a time when “the Islamic world is experiencing many disputes within itself.”  Addressing OIC foreign ministers, he said: “Fratricidal conflict cause great pain. Sectarianism divides the Ummah.”  He hoped the summit “will pave the way for healing some wounds”.  The summit takes place in the wake of a bilateral meeting in Ankara on Tuesday between Erdogan and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman of Saudi Arabia.
