Mowasalat has floated tenders for its fifth taxi franchise, according to an advertisement published yesterday. The company is looking forward to Qatari-owned companies to participate in the tender, which would be closed before noon on May 1.
The bidder should have the capacity to operate and finance a fleet of up to 500 taxis. No existing franchisee is allowed to participate in this bid.
The copies of tender documents could be collected from the Secretariat Tenders Committee Office at the Mowasalat Headquarters between 8 and 2 pm, until March 30, except Fridays and Saturdays, it said.
Already there are four Karwa taxi franchisees namely Al Million, Al Ijaara, Car Cabs of Profit Trading and Contracting Company and Capital taxis of Ibn Ajayan Trading & Contracting. Besides this, Mowasalat’s own Karwa taxis are also operating.
Only ‘green ACs’ from July 1
Assistant Undersecretary for Laboratories and Standardisation at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment Dr Mohamed bin Saif al-Kuwari said the ministry will allow the entry, import, trading and storage of only energy saving air-conditioners from July 1. The energy efficiency rate of these ACs must not be less than 8.5Btu per hour. Al-Kuwari said the goal is to save and rationalise the use of energy in the country. He was speaking at the launch of the scientific book ‘Recycled Aggregate in Construction - Qatar Experience’.
Filipino food festival at Quality Mall
Quality Retail Group has announced that a carnival of Filipino food and food products, Pistang Pinoy, will be held from today until April 2. The festival will be inaugurated by Philippine ambassador Wilfredo Santos at Quality Mall, Al Hilal, at 6pm today. Jail, deportation for stealing cash
A Sri Lankan man has been sentenced to six months in jail and subsequent deportation by a Doha Criminal Court for stealing a sum of QR2,200 from a parked vehicle. Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that the victim parked his car beside a road and locked it but left the currency on a seat. The defendant forced the driver’s door open and took the money and fled. When the victim came back to his car he discovered the theft and reported the issue to the police. The defendant was arrested by the police for another matter and during the investigation he admitted the theft of money from a car. He also showed investigators where he hid a sum of QR800, the balance from the stolen money after spending the rest.
