Qatar and Pakistan yesterday signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) on co-operation in the fields of radio & television, health and academic research.
These are in addition to the long-term agreement sales and purchase agreement signed by the two sides to supply liquefied natural gas.
HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif witnessed the signing of the MoUs.
The first MoU on co-operation between the two countries in radio & television was signed by HE the Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani and Pakistan’s Special Assistant to the PM on Foreign Affairs, Syed Tariq Fatemi.
Under the MoU on academic research, signed by ambassador Shahzad Ahmad from the Pakistani side, the National Defence University of Pakistan and Centre for Strategic Studies of the Qatar Armed Forces will co-operate in academic research, said an official from the embassy of Pakistan.
Another MoU was signed for co-operation between the two countries in the health sector.
The agreement-signing ceremony was also attended by HH the Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani and HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, besides a number of other ministers.
Earlier, Sharif was accorded a warm welcome on his arrival for the two-day official visit of Qatar. The Pakistani premier was received at the airport by HE the Prime Minister and HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada.
The Pakistani prime minister’s delegation includes members of his cabinet, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources; Ishaq Dar, Minister for Finance; Fatemi; Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, Chief of Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force; and other government officials.
On the second day of his visit today, the Pakistani PM is scheduled to meet and interact with prominent members of the Pakistani diaspora and businesspersons living in Qatar.


Emir, Sharif hold official talks

 
HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif holding talks yesterday.

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a round of official talks at the Emiri Diwan yesterday.
The talks dealt with the promotion of investment opportunities and broadening bilateral co-operation in energy, economy and military fields.
In the political sphere, the two sides discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, particularly the latest developments in the Middle East.
HH the Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani and HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani also attended the talks session.
On the Pakistani side, the talks were attended by the members of the official delegation accompanying Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Later, the Emir hosted a luncheon banquet in the honour of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the delegation accompanying him.
HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister attended the banquet along with a number of other ministers.
