The major venues for Qatar’s National Sport Day (NSD) celebrations on Tuesday are all set to welcome a large number of people who will take part in various sport, recreational and physical activities.

Based on Qatar Olympic Committee’s (QOC) list, Katara – the Cultural Village will host the 3x3 basketball competition, handball, gymnastics, Karate shows, wrestling, fast and slow chess, weightlifting, table tennis and sailing.

Besides beautifying the esplanade with a garden filled with colourful flowers and plants, Katara has set up courts for beach volleyball and football in the beach area. It also readied a number of fitness equipment, a mini football court, and areas for children’s games.

Aspire Zone will host several unique outdoor and indoor sports for all ages and family activities starting at 7am until afternoon. These include zumba for females; beach soccer and basketball for males; fun run, bike and 5,000 steps journey for families; ‘Beat the Champion’ which include 20m sprint run, throwing speed (baseball pitch), vertical jump (like Michael Jordan), and a 200m bike race; and numerous sports activities such as taekwondo, judo, and wall climbing, among others.

The Hamad Aquatic Centre will be the main venue for aquatic sports and activities such as swimming (and lessons), water polo, diving, ‘water festival’ and several water games.

Some water sports and events such as sailing race, water skiing, and rowing will take place on the Doha Corniche, which is also the venue for fencing, fencing walk, mini golf, and weightlifting.

Extreme sports and activities will be held in different locations across Doha. Shooting and archery are scheduled from 8am to 6pm at Lusail while snooker and billiards will start at 9am at Rawdat Al Khalil Street in Mansoura.

Dubbed as “’Para-sport open day,” QOC and Qatar Paralympic Association also organised sports activities for differently-abled people from 8.30am to 1.30pm at the Qatar Paralympic Committee headquarters.

Three venues – the Mohamed bin Abdulwahab Independent School for Boys, Ali Bin Abi Taleb School for Boys, and German School in Mamoura – will host the hockey festival” starting at 9am. Golf is expected to be take place at the Qatar Golf Club.

Part of QOC’s list also includes tennis competitions and lessons at the Khalifa Tennis Complex, as well as sepak takraw as a side activity in the morning.

A number of venues are hosting NSD events of different companies, organisations and institutions in the country.

The Museum of Islamic Art Park is set to welcome Ooredoo employees for several activities such as physical fitness for all and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, kayaking and football.

The Pearl-Qatar will be hosting UDC employees for their annual NSD sports activities.

Employees and staff of Hamad Medical Corporation will gather at the Bayt Al Dhiyafah Medical City (main venue) while others are expected to take part in different sports activities at Al Wakra and Al Khor.

Al Saad Sports Club is hosting many sports events for employees of Qatar Airways Group and a number of organisations and groups.

BMX bikers and skateboarders will be seeing action in different locations such as Aspire Park, Landmark Mall and Al Sadd Sports Club, according to Qatar Extreme Sports founder Farhan al-Sayed.
