As part of the road expansion work taking place near Al Thumama Signal and surrounding areas, two newly constructed lanes in each direction on Najma Street and the E-Ring Road were opened to traffic on Sunday.

The remaining works of the QR240mn project will be completed by the end of the year, according to Ashghal.

The fully developed intersection will include four lanes in each direction on E-Ring Road with three dedicated turning lanes in each direction, and three lanes in each direction on Najma Street.

The upgrade project aims to develop approximately 3km of Najma Street in order to widen it, in addition to the construction of two new signal-controlled intersections and the development of approximately 3.3km of the E-Ring Road which would have four lanes in each direction.

The work of the whole project started in the second quarter of last year.

The project works also include the development of another intersection at Oqba Bin Nafie Street and Najma Street. Also part of the project are the implementation of landscaping works, as well as the provision of pedestrian and cyclists pathways, car parking, and median islands, and the construction of infrastructure utilities in the area.

The construction of Al Thumama Intersection is considered an important step in the upgrade project on E-Ring Road and Najma Street as it will contribute to the enhancement of traffic flow in the area.

Temporary closure on East Industrial Street

Meanwhile, Ashghal said a six-month closure on the northbound lane of East Industrial Street leading to Doha for approximately 250m (as shown in the map) will be in place from Thursday.

During the period, traffic on the closed section of East Industrial Street will be diverted to the opposite side of the road (southbound lane), which has been divided to contain both directions (to and from Doha city), with one lane in each direction.

The diversion will have only a minimal impact on traffic flow and vehicles will continue to have full access to all properties, according to Ashghal authorities.

This diversion is required to start the construction works of the East West Corridor Interchange with Al Aziziya Street Extension as part of the East West Corridor Expressway project.
