Amusing observation
Dear Sir,
I was much amused to read Kamal Darmora’s letter, “Don’t focus on negative news” ( Gulf Times, February 4). Darmora says in his letter: “During the last few decades, news from India often centred on corruption and its poor leadership, but now that the Modi government has almost eliminated the corruption scourge…”
This sentence is eligible for the “funniest remarks” of 2016. Thanks God, he hasn’t said that corruption is already totally eliminated in India. It seems that the writer didn’t have any problem if Indian news coverage centred on corruption and poor leadership for the last few decades, his only wish now is that reports on the present corruption and poor leadership must be swept under the carpet and not covered by the media!
Can the writer explain to the vast majority of Indian readers of this paper that how and where Narendra Modi has almost eliminated the corruption?
In the election manifesto of Modi’s  Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), there were many sweet promises, the main one being that black-money abroad will be tracked down and brought back to India. What has happened to it?
The BJP was very keen to call agitations against the previous government for increasing petrol prices but after Modi took power, even as the global oil prices crashed, petrol prices in India continue to go up almost every day. Keeping all these developments in mind, how could one hold one’s laugh after reading Darmora’s letter?

Poor knowledge on Indian politics
Dear Sir,
After reading the letter by Kamal Darmora (“Don’t focus on negative news”, Gulf Times, February 4), one has to conclude he has only very poor knowledge about Indian politics. And one would also like to advise him not to impose his ideas and opinions on others.
People are intelligent enough to evaluate the credibility of their politicians and leaders once they get to know them.
Narendra Modi had made a lot of promises before the election and it is up to people to decide how many of them have actually been fulfilled after he came to power.
