Sisno Pani — a classic comedy group from Nepal — recently entertained migrant workers through a five-day long programme. Manoj Gajurel, Tanka Raj Acharya, Laxman Gamnage, Arjun Parajuli, Dhirendra Premarshi and Shishir Yogi were the team members of the group invited to Doha by Non-Resident Nepalese Association—National Coordination Council (NRNA—NCC), Nepalese embassy, Government of Nepal (GoN) and other community organisations.
During their comic act, Sisno Pani artistes presented the precarious situation of Nepalese populace who are currently facing the scarcity of basic needs amid the undeclared blockade imposed by neighbouring India. They also showed how remittance sent by Nepalese workers from the Gulf has sustained the country’s failing economy.
They also warned Nepalese workers to follow their host country’s rules and regulations strictly, suggested not to drink alcohol and spend their precious time and money on unproductive matters and things.
On the first day, Sisno Pani team, led by president Laxman Gamnage, went to the camp of Al Jaber Company located at Al Khor and entertained the workers for two hours. During that evening, president and poet Gamnage recited a poem about the current situation of Nepal in satirical manner.
In his poem, he raised issues like sacrifice of migrant workers in sustaining country’s economy and corruption. Tanka Raj Acharya performed an awareness song. Another veteran Manoj Gajurel caricatured different politicians, including Indian PM Narendra Modi, for over 45 minutes.
Gajurel didn’t leave any space to suggest the workers to become optimistic amidst the bleak political landscape of the Himalayan nation. Singer Shishir Yogi performed a patriotic song about the history and the natural beauty of the country. Yogi is one of the renowned modern singers and has recorded more than 100 songs. Hailing from the west of Nepal, Yogi apart from singing, paints portraits and landscapes.
Poet Arjun Parajuli recited a compelling poem about the rampant corruption and unethical practices among politicians and bureaucrats of Nepal. Artist Dhirendra Premarshi performed a song.
The programme was attended by over 300 employees including Nitesh Sapkota, second secretary of Nepal Embassy, NRNA—NCC president Binesh Tamang, and representative of different social organisations. The team performed at the camp of Pigeon Engineering Company, located at Sanaiya 15, on the next day. Harihar Poudel, second secretary at the Nepalese Embassy, was present on the second day attended by over 500 workers.
Thereafter the team moved to Sanaiya 41 where they showed their performance at QTGC Company Camp. The performance at QTGC was supported by Bishwokarma Society of Qatar. On this occasion, Mithila Muncha also performed their cultural programme too.
Khas Chhetri Society and Dang Deukhuri Society jointly organised a programme at Al Jaal Restaurant, Al Sadd, for the comedian team where the team performed. The comedy team met with Mani Ratna Sharma, Charge de Affairs at the Nepalese Embassy, and held discussions about creative measures to entertain migrant workers.
