A Palestinian youth stabbed and wounded two Israelis north of Tel Aviv on Saturday before being apprehended, police said.

"A man is badly wounded and a woman lightly injured," a statement said. "The terrorist was caught by forces in the area."

The 20-year-old from the northern West Bank, who had entered Israel illegally, was found hiding in the yard of a house near the scene of the attack in the Israeli town of Raanana, police said.

Israeli rescue services said that the wounded man was in his 40s and the woman about 60 years old.

A wave of violence since the start of October has claimed the lives of 123 on the Palestinian side, 17 Israelis, an American and an Eritrean.

Many of the Palestinians killed have been attackers, while others have been shot dead by Israeli security forces during clashes.

On Friday, two Palestinian drivers tried to run down Israeli security forces in separate attacks in the occupied West Bank, with one attacker shot dead and the other wounded, Israeli officials said.

Troops later shot dead a man in clashes northeast of Ramallah, while in the Gaza Strip, soldiers shot dead a Palestinian protester and wounded 41 others during clashes along the border with Israel, the Palestinian health ministry said.
