Seven Indians are among the prisoners pardoned by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.
Confirming this Monday, a senior official at the Indian embassy said the seven, all males, were serving sentences of short periods for `minor' offences. Earlier in the day, the embassy received official communication to this effect.
The official did not disclose the identities of those who have been pardoned. It is understood that some of the pardoned were serving sentences of up to three years for such cases as thefts.
When contacted, the Sri Lankan embassy informed it is yet to receive any official communication on the issue. An official said they are expecting to receive a government communique one of these days. The Bangladesh embassy could not be reached.
