Qatargas will support Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) in its awareness programmes by financing the production of a short film and a commercial. The commercial will be screened on local television channels soon. |
Dr Osama Ibrahim, chief medical officer, Qatargas, said that it was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility
initiatives in the field of health.
Dr Ibrahim added: “We are providing financial support for the production of a television commercial as well as an awareness film on cancer by QCS under the title “Generosity is its Own Reward.” This, we hope, will help to spread awareness on cancer and prevent the spread of the disease.”
The doctor also pointed out that it was important to convey the message that cancer is completely
curable.
He explained: “Early detection is the best way to prevent the disease. There are many myths and misconceptions about cancer among the people. With early detection and proper treatment, most of the cancer cases can be
completely cured.”
Dr AbdulAzim Abdulwahab, vice chairman, Qatar Cancer Society, said that corporate support was an important factor in the fight against cancer.
“Statistics show that cancer is on the increase in Qatar and across the Middle East. This underscores the significance of launching a joint and broad-based awareness programme that not only seeks to address the existing situation, but places much more focus on prevention methods,” he added.
Simon Ferguson, chief operating officer, Resolution Productions, a production house, said that the commercial has a touching story. “It has already been shot and ready for broadcasting. It will be shown on local channels such as Qatar Television as well as on Rayan TV. The commercial is set in a traditional Qatari family environment with a grandfather who is affected with cancer,” he said, adding: “The commercial also shows the grandchildren donate their pocket money to Qatar Cancer Society in their commitment to fight cancer.”
He said that there will also be outdoor advertisements using billboards. A six-minute awareness film is also produced by QCS as part of this project and it will be broadcast on all the events in which QCS is involved.
