Final preparations have been made at the venues for the Eid al-Adha celebrations in Qatar.
Workers in Katara - the Cultural Village have put up giant puppets of “Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves”, attracting many people who were seen taking pictures.
A project official told Gulf Times that the four-day festivity would showcase a variety of artistic and creative performances in Katara.
“People will enjoy these shows, including the spectacular fireworks display from the Palm Island,” he said.
Giant puppets will perform from 5.30pm to 6.30pm for the first show. It will resume at 8.30pm, lasting until 9.30pm, in time for the fireworks display.
Katara features “Confusionism - an exhibition by Mahmoud Obaidi” at the art building. It is open for public viewing until November 9.
Katara employees said there had been a rise in the number of visitors from other GCC countries such as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait.
Souq Waqif has put up a mini-amphitheatre and huge tents for its shows which all start at 4.30pm tomorrow. These include the Snow White, Magician on a Stick, Bjorn the Polar Bear, Colourful Parade, Titan the Robot, Balloonatic, Dave the Chameleon, Circus: Mother Africa, Trampoline and Ian Marchant. Entry is free.
Qatar Tourism Authority is organising Eid festivities from tomorrow until October 20 at City Center Doha, Hyatt Plaza, Lagoona Mall, Landmark Mall, The Gate Mall, Villaggio Mall, and Al Khor Mall, from 4.30pm to 9.30pm. Entry is free.
The Cultural Village at Al Bidaa Park on the Corniche will be open for four days from tomorrow. The timing is from 6pm to midnight. Entry is free.
The Sout Al Rayyan music festival will be held in Al Rayyan Theatre Al Mirqab Boutique Hotel, also in Souq Waqif from 8.30pm to midnight.
People will have the chance to watch leading performers from countries like the UK, Russia, Spain, Italy, Ecuador, Uzbekistan, Mongolia and Brazil through the Royal Circus hosted by Hyatt Plaza.
Fawaz Mohamed, the malls’ corporate communications executive, said they were “fully ready” for the Eid festivity.
The Pearl-Qatar will host a number of “unique” shows like the Live Music Entertainers, Water Screen Projections and the Live Bubble show.
Besides the art installations and exhibitions, the Museum of Islamic Art will host the Jazz in the Park by Etienne Charles on October 16 from 7pm to 8pm.
