Work on Gharrafa tunnel begins

 

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has started work on a 1km tunnel to connect the north of Gharrafa with its west, as part of Dukhan Expressway, local daily Arrayah has reported.

Preparatory work for Gharrafa tunnel project has been done by the contracting company. Given that the work on the tunnel is expected to take nearly two years, a new diversion has been opened lately to ease the traffic circulation, in particular the movement of the heavy trucks, which are more frequent on this road.

More than 60 persons are currently working on the construction site. The work on the Dukhan Expressway project was divided into seven parts and five of these are underway. It is scheduled to have four lanes in each direction.

20 workers
injured in accident

 

Around 20 expatriate labourers were injured when their bus crashed into another vehicle coming from a sliproad, local daily
Arrayah reported yesterday.

The bus overturned causing injuries to passengers. The passengers of the other vehicle were also injured. The accident took place very early in the morning. Ambulances and traffic patrols reached the scene.

In another accident, an Arab expatriate knocked down his five-year-old daughter with his vehicle. The father immediately rushed her to the hospital.

Lawsuits against dud cheques

 

Lawsuits regarding dud cheques constitute a sizeable number among the cases heard at the Criminal Court, local daily Al Arab has reported.

A perusal of the lawsuits’ list, displayed at the Courts Complex in Al Sadd, is a testament to the fact. Lawyer Mohamed al-Tamimi said the punishment for issuing a dud cheque involves jail for a period of not less than three months and not more than three years and payment of a fine not less than QR3,000 and not more than QR10,000.

156 building violations

The Al-Rayyan Municipality has registered as many as 156 building violations during inspection campaigns in several areas under its jurisdiction. These include Al-Manaseer, Abu-Sidra, Al-Mura West, and Maither South.

There were 65 violations for portacabin and tents transgressing the state land, 40 violations of not erecting a fence around building sites, 21 buildings without permit, 19 for discarding building waste outside the limits of the building, eight for colour scheme violations, and three safety and security violations in digging.

337 consumer complaints received

The Consumer Protection Department (CPD) of the Ministry of Business and Trade (MBT) has recorded 67 violations of law No. 8 for 2008 regarding consumer protection during its inspection campaigns in August.

The CPD also received 337 consumer complaints during the same period. The department treated all such complaints and referred them to the competent authorities.
