A Doha-based singer has won a prestigious award in India.
Vandana Srinivasan was voted the Best Debut Female singer at the annual Big Tamil Melody Awards organised by 92.7 BIG FM, a music station in the south Indian city of Chennai.
The event was held at the Chennai Trade Centre recently.
Vandana won the award for the song Oru Paadhi Kadhavu from the hit Tamil film Thaandavam. The nominations were made by the listeners and the awards were based on the number of votes for each nominee.
The awards event is an exclusive platform that honours singers and musicians in various categories.
Vandana, a former student of Doha’s MES Indian School and who has a master’s degree in organisational psychology from the London School of Economics, has sung for several films in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam.
Apart from film music, her interest and involvement lie in the independent music scene so as to create her own album. She also gives live performances and has held concerts in Sri Lanka, Singapore, Dubai and London.
Vanadana said she plans to organise a show in Doha soon.
