The Educate A Child (EAC) programme has officially announced two new worldwide partners, Qatar Airways and Jazz at Lincoln Centre, both of which will seek to raise awareness about the initiative and its objectives. |
The announcement was made at a press conference in New York recently.
Qatar Airways has pledged to provide food, cargo and personal transport services for the programme and also promote awareness of the EAC and the plight of 61mn out-of-school children in the world through its in-flight communication channels. Qatar Airways CEO Akbar al-Baker said: “Qatar Airways is proud to partner with an initiative that matches our spirit and ambition as an organisation.
Guided by the commendable vision of Educate A Child, we have already begun to support out-of-school children around the world with the basic human right they deserve – education.” In addition to flight services, Qatar Airways will use its communication platforms to reach the airline’s global passenger base, showcasing the initiative through in-flight entertainment, in-flight magazines and the carrier’s website, qatarairways.com and social media channels.
The press conference featured a number of key individuals associated with EAC. Joining al-Baker were Qatar Foundation Endowment executive committee member and special envoy to the EAC Dr Tidu Maini; CEO of Education Above All Marcio Barbosa; executive committee member of the Education Above All Foundation, Mohamed al-Naimi and Jazz at Lincoln Centre chairman Robert Appel. Jazz at Lincoln Centre plans to leverage its global audience and institutional assets to raise awareness about the EAC’s work. “We are proud to support and help raise awareness for Educate A Child’s cause,” said Appel.
Later, HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, the Unesco special envoy on basic and higher education, gave an address on the EAC programme to a group of New York’s best-known philanthropists at Jazz at Lincoln Centre in New York.
