Operational excellence and best practices are under the spotlight at an ongoing gas industry conference, sponsored by Oryx GTL, in Doha.

As a Qatari industrial pioneer now inspiring a new generation of advanced gas-to-liquids (GTL) plants around the world, Oryx GTL is playing a lead role at the 21st Gas Processors Association (GPA)-GCC Chapter (GPA-GCC) Technical Conference, an annual platform for companies and industry experts to share ideas, technological expertise and knowledge.

This year’s conference is being held under the patronage of HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada. It includes a keynote opening address by Hamad Rashid al-Mohannadi, managing director and CEO of RasGas Company Limited, technical presentations and a workshop.

As a sponsor, Oryx GTL’s participation in the conference is in keeping with its commitment to knowledge sharing and collaboration with its partners, fellow operators and all stakeholders on a range of issues that affect the long-term future of the gas industry.

This year’s GPA-GCC Technical Conference, which ends today, is being held under the theme of operational excellence and best practice.

Oryx GTL, which has an enviable track record for the safe, reliable, sustainable and cost-efficient operation of its plant in Ras Laffan, is sharing its wealth of knowledge and expertise in this area with the 150 delegates through technical presentations that highlight the latest developments related to improving plant operations, health, safety and environmental performance.

The conference also features a “Gas Sweetening” workshop, providing participants with an update on latest processes in this field, in addition to case studies and discussion sessions.

Besides providing an opportunity to engage at a technical level with fellow gas operators, the conference enables Oryx GTL to fulfil a key strategic objective of closer collaboration with leading academic institutions in Qatar.

In this regard, the company is hosting a number of professors and students from College of the North Atlantic - Qatar, Qatar University and Texas A&M University Qatar at both the conference and the workshop, with the aim of enhancing their pursuit of knowledge of gas industry trends and technologies.

By sponsoring technical events such as the 21st GPA-GCC Technical Conference, Oryx GTL - as a key proponent of sustainable development - is supporting the country’s gas diversification strategy (including GTL) in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

For Oryx GTL, the conference is also a cause for celebration as CEO Abdulrahman M al-Suwaidi has been elected as the next chairman of the GPA-GCC Chapter in recognition of his work in bringing the regional gas industry together on key issues. Based in Bahrain, the GPA-GCC Chapter was formed in 1993 to provide a forum for companies in the GCC gas industry to exchange information and share best practices.
