The Ministry of Interior (MoI) will observe Arab Human Rights Day tomorrow.

The event will be held under the patronage of the Minister of State for Interior Affairs, at Crowne Plaza Doha.

Col Abdulla Saqr al-Muhannadi, director of the Human Rights Department, Maj Saad Salem al-Dosari, head of research and development at the department, and Dr Osama al-Alosi, legal adviser in the department, attended the press conference to announce the event.

Col al-Muhannadi emphasised on the MoI’s contribution to support the joint Arab endeavour within the framework of the Arab League in the field of human rights. The MoI will contribute in terms of preparing draft laws and Arab human rights conventions.

He said the organising committee is working to make it a grand event that suits the status of Qatar in the field of strengthening human rights. The theme for this year’s celebrations chosen by the General Secretariat of the Arab League and the Arab Commission for Human Rights is “dialogue and tolerance to promote and protect human rights”.

Maj al-Dosari said a preparatory committee has been formed representing members of various departments, including Community Police of the Department of North Security, Women’s Affairs Committee and the Public Relations Department.

Various programmes will be organised on March 17 and 18, including lectures based on the theme for this year. As part of the activities, a forum on how dialogue and tolerance can help promote social peace will be held in the main hall of the Criminal Investigation Department on March 19.

The Community Police section of North Security Department will visit the industrial zone in Ras Laffan in collaboration with the Human Rights Department on the morning of March 24, where it will organise a seminar to highlight how the state cares for expatriate workers and their identity, cultural and religious rights.
