10th edition of Senyar Festival concludes

The winners of 10th edition of Senyar Festival were crowned on Saturday by Katara - Cultural Village general manager Prof Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti.The concluding ceremony at Katara was attended by participating teams, a large crowd of the public, and maritime heritage enthusiasts. Team Suhail claimed the first place with 376.66kg, and fisherman Hamad Ali al-Tamimi received the trophy and a prize of QR1mn.Team Al Zubara secured the second place with 349.6kg, and Nasser Khalifa al-Malham received a prize of QR500,000. Team Al-Jaryyan won the third place with 348.5kg, and Hamad Nasser al-Suwaidi received a prize of QR300,000.The ceremony also crowned the winners of the top three prizes for the largest fish. Team Suhail won first place with a weight of 16.40kg, and Hamad Ali al-Tamimi received a prize of QR50,000. Team Al Khor came in second with 12.40kg, and received a prize of QR 30,000. Team Belhambar won the third place with 12.25kg, and fisherman Ali Mohammed al-Emadi received a prize of QR20,000.Prof Dr al-Sulaiti stressed in his address that Senyar revives the heritage of the ancestors, recalling their feats and glories. He pointed out the significance of the festival in reviving the traditions of the first generation and embodying their struggles. He expressed his pride in Senyar's continued success this year, attracting more youth from Qatar and the other GCC countries, establishing the festival's role in reviving the maritime heritage in Qatar and the region.The Katara general manager thanked all participating entities, including the Ministry of Interior represented by the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security, the Ministry of Municipality represented by the Fisheries Department, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Social and Sports Activities Support Fund, as well as Al-Kass TV Channels, Hamad Port, Mesaieed Port, Qatar Fish Shop, Senyar Ice Factory, Vodafone, and others.He also appreciated the efforts of the organising committee for their dedication in ensuring the safety and well-being of the competitors, and the smooth conduct of the competitions.

Six months of bloodshed: The toll on Gaza’s children

The bloodiest ever Gaza war which broke out over six months ago has taken an appalling toll on children. NGO Save the Children estimates that some 26,000 children have been killed or injured in the war, 17,000 have been orphaned, according to UNICEF, and 1 in 3 children under two years old in northern Gaza is suffering from acute malnutrition. In total, at least 33,207 people have been killed in the besieged Palestinian territory in Israel's retaliatory campaign for the October 7 attack, according to Hamas-run Gaza's health ministry. The unprecedented Hamas raid on southern Israel resulted in the deaths of 1,170 Israelis and foreigners, most of them civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures. AFP

Gazans struggle to secure flour for daily bread

"I spent the night on Kuwait Roundabout to secure this bag of flour", says a Palestinian in Gaza City carrying a bag of flour he managed to get from an aid truck. A UN-backed report warned that half of Gazans are experiencing "catastrophic" hunger, with famine projected to hit the north of the territory unless there is urgent intervention. AFP
