Members belonging to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) attending a rally to demand an end to suppression of NGO activists by the government, yesterday in Colombo. The protest came after defence ministry run by President Mahinda Rajapakse’s brother defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse on July 7 issued a directive to outlaw press conferences and media statements by NGOs operating in the country.
