Qatar Cricket Association officials at the announcement of the GCC Women’s T20 Cricket tournament to be held in Doha from November 29 to December 3.

Qatar Cricket Association will host the second edition of the GCC Women’s T20 Cricket tournament at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium in Industrial Area, from November 29 to December 3.
Teams from the UAE and Oman will join Qatar’s national side at the week-long event. The first edition of the event was held in Oman last year, where UAE won the championship, with Kuwait finishing runner-up and host Oman third.
“Only two teams Oman and UAE have confirmed their participation in the tournament. Along with Qatar, they will play two matches each. We had invited Kuwait too but they are in Thailand at the moment, participating in another tournament,” said Manzoor Ahmad, QCA Secretary General.
The opening ceremony for the tournament will be held today at 11am. Three teams will play each other once, with top two qualifying for Thursday’s final to be held at 4: 30pm. Two league matches will be played in a day and the entry is free for the public.
Qatar women’s national team has been training at the Asian Cricket Town Stadium located at Industrial Area near Karwa workshop for the championship.
Ronald Mendonca, the vice-president of the QCA, said that the association hopes to promote cricket in Qatar through this tournament. “We at the QCA are active in promoting cricket in the region. We are doing our best to bring as many as tournaments as possible to Qatar and generate interest in the sport among local and expatriates,” Mendonca added.
Tournament Director Gul Khan Jadoon said this is the first time GCC Women’s T20 tournament is being conducted under flood lights.
After the conclusion of the GCC Women’s T20 Cricket tournament, a schools T20 tournament will be held from December 4th to 7th, the QCA revealed. Four schools – Ideal Indian School, MES, PEC and Pak Shamaa – will be participating in the tournament.
