The struggling Edmonton Oilers have agreed to a contract with forward Connor McDavid, the first overall pick in last month’s National Hockey League entry draft.
The 18-year-old Canadian reportedly signed a three-year entry level deal with the Oilers who have missed the playoffs for nine straight seasons and 11 of the last 13 years.
McDavid has spent the past three seasons with the Ontario Hockey League’s Erie Otters, recording 97 goals and 188 assists in 166 career games. His 285 points are second most in Otters franchise history.
In 47 games with Erie last season, McDavid tallied 44 goals and 76 assists.
He also helped Canada win a gold medal at the 2015 World Junior Hockey Championship.
