As part of Aspire Zone’s Ramadan Sports Festival, two new events for women’s futsal and beach soccer launched on Sunday night. Both are in addition to the Sport Festival’s ongoing competitions that include the Embassies Cup, the banks’ tournament and Aspire Zone staff futsal competitions.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs team delivered another strong performance in the Embassies Cup after winning 7-5 against India. Qatar, India and Morocco are the three teams competing in the final stage. Qatar has one game left in the tournament, which will be against Morocco.
The match is expected to be the most competitive yet.
Qatar’s team’s Ahmah Jalham said: “Our game against India was tough, but our team was determined to win.” He added: “the Embassies Tournament, held for the first time this year, is a great idea and is very well put together. We would like to thank Aspire Zone Foundation for such a great job organising it – something all of us recognise.”
The competition in the banks tournament is also getting tougher with several teams battling it out to reach the final. Al Rayan Bank team was able to defeat Qatar National Bank 5-1, while Commercial Bank defeated Qatar Development bank 1-0.
In the men’s football, everyone’s eye is on the final which will be held today evening between Al Waab and PSG. The two teams qualified after deserved victories against Kafod and Al Wadi, respectively. The final is expected to be one of the most notable matches in the tournament, especially after the amazing performances of both teams to date and their victories against previous, strong opposition.
The men’s beach soccer competition also started on Sunday evening with eight teams’ participation in two groups. During the opening day, Murack ran out winners against Katar 6-2, Al Gharrafa Falcons against Real 7-2, and Africa Stars against Barcelona 6-2.  The Women’s futsal competition also held Sunday evening with five teams participating in the tournament. During the opening day two matches were played in which Al Khor defeated Merangi 8-0 and Qatar beat Barcelona 3-1.
The Aspire Zone staff futsal tournament also continued with more matches on its second day. In the first match, the Aspartans scored 7 goals against Maroon, winning the match in the process. In the second match, Al Sadd defeated team Tigers 7-1, and in the last game, Ismail Team defeated Mssd 5-2.
Now in its fourth year, the Aspire Zone Ramadan Sports festival builds on the success of previous years. The event provides participants with a number of opportunities for physical activity during the Holy Month of Ramadan and is part of a programme of events, which reflect Aspire Zone’s commitment to Ramadan’s spiritual values.
