Qatar Racing Limited’s Pearl Secret won his first Group race in the Gr2 Betfred.com Temple Stakes run at Haydock, UK on Saturday. Pearl Secret took the lead of this five-furlong sprint and was able to resist with courage the attack of Jack Dexter and beat him by a nose. Other Qatar Racing Limited’s representatives, Wind Fire and Hot Streak, finished third and sixth respectively.
Pearl Secret finished second in last year’s edition of the race. He has already won the Sprint Conditions Stakes (L) and Beverley Bullet Sprint Stakes (L).
“We’ve been waiting for that to happen for a while’, said Pearl Secret’s trainer David Barron, “It’s always a bit difficult with him, though, as he needs some give in the ground. We trained him all winter and never missed a day, and then when he ran in France two weeks ago he ran so badly we wondered why we’d bothered. I gave him a piece of work on Monday which was very good and that’s all I’ve done with him. He wouldn’t go to Ascot if it was firm, as he wants the ground no quicker than today. He’s always been very quick, and has taken our eye from day one”.
