Michael Fraser and Suleiman Khalid Abdi registered 27 points apiece to give Al Sadd a convincing 96-82 win in the Emir Cup basketball tournament yesterday.
Parish Petti also made a mark for the winners with 22 points, while Saeed Erfan Ali chipped in with 11 as Al Sadd dominated from the outset and never looked back.
Barring a brief spell at the start of the match during which Al Wakrah led 6-2, it was Al Sadd all the way as they raced to a 28-20 lead in the first quarter and kept improving on it as the match progressed.
Al Sadd had 52 points in the paint while Wakrah had 30.  In the second quarter, the winners recorded a 12-point scoring run that saw them a handy 56-39 lead with 20 minutes to go.
For Al Wakrah, Mildon Ambres recorderd a game-high 28 points, scoring four times from the three-point mark in the process.
Calvin Cage also hit a trio of three-pointers in his 25 points, while Ayeni Olatokunbo had 23. Al Wakrah’s best scoring run came in the final quarter when they shot 24 points, but that was a bit too late in the day for them to cause an upset.
In the second match of the day, El Jaish thrashed Al Ahli 104-67.
Ward Spates led the El Jaish charge with 23 points, while Harold Boney Watson had 18 and Leon Macklin, Marone Ngom and Hani Abilmona 13 each.
El Jaish led 24-18 after the first quarter but then progressively stretched their advantage to put the match beyond their rivals.
El Jaish carried an 83-53 advantage into the final quarter in which they restricted Al Ahli to just 14, while scoring 21 themselves.
Narcellius Soyebo top scored with Al Ahli with 21 while Omar Ahmad had 15 and Tyrone McNeal 14.
