Dahlan al-Hamad will serve for another four years as president of the Asian Athletics Association (AAA), the Asian governing body of the sport of athletics (track & field, cross country, running & walking) and will have the unanimous support of all the Member Federations to implement his plans to make Asia the centre stage of global athletics.
The official announcement will be made on June 2 in the Chinese city of Wuhan during the Asian Athletics Congress when the new presidential cycle 2015-2019 starts.
The Asian Athletics family had welcomed the announcement of al-Hamad, who is Dahlan, who is also the president of Qatar Athletics Federation (QAF), a few weeks ago when he said he will run for another term (full term this time) as president of AAA, an association with 45 Member Federations across Asia.
Undoubtedly this is an acknowledgement of the successful work and the importance of the role that he has played in the last 20 months, working on the development and on a plan to revamp Asian Athletics, focusing on youth programmes and also on the creation of a new strategic plan for the most promising continent for the sport of athletics.
"I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart all Asian Athletics Federations for their support from the first moment I was elected to lead AAA and I truly believe that together we will bring Asia to the centre stage of athletics world.
“As I have already demonstrated, during my tenure as president of Asia Athletics Association, our plan for Asia will be achieved by creating and delivering a new athletics concept.
"We need to emphasise on the grass roots programmes, we need to educate and engage youngsters on the sportsmanlike principles, and teach them the virtues of fairplay and to fight against doping.
"I wish to ensure each and every one that I will do what it takes to further enhance the Asian Athletics Association operations," said al-Hamad, who is also a IAAF vice-president, in a statement yesterday.
