Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation president and FIA vice president Nasser Khalifa al-Attiyah will attend the third FIA MENA meeting in Kuwait City today.
The three-day meeting, which will be held at Crowne Plaza — Kuwait, between March 6 and 8, will see participation of more than 20 countries representing FIA MENA clubs and federations apart from FIA president Jean Todt.
The first of these MENA meetings was held in Qatar in April last year, followed by the second one in Jounieh, Lebanon, in September 2014.
Kuwait International Automobile Club, headed by chairman Emad Bukhamseen, has made all the necessary preparations in order to have a successful event.
Apart from Todt, also present at the meeting will be Sheikh Ahmad al-Mansour al-Sabah, head of Public Authority for Youth and Sport.
Al-Attiyah said: “Kuwait is considered as one of the most important countries in FIA as they have a special motorsport culture and are able to disseminate concepts of motorsport, including safety, among youth on a large scale. Kuwaiti motorsport has large number of fans and we hope to see more and more cooperation and co-ordination between FIA – MENA and the Kuwaiti officials.
“The plans, strategies and latest updates will be discussed in the meeting. In terms of the whole region, we will co-operate with each other to have more success in the MENA region, which is considered the most important region after Europe.”
Meanwhile, Sheikh Mohammad al-Khaled, head of Circuits Commission at Basel Al Sabah Club, thanked the guests of Kuwait. “We wish to have a fruitful meeting with positive results related to motorsport,” he said.
Bukhamseen thanked Minister of Information & Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman al-Homoud al-Sabah for his initiative to sponsor this meeting and for his continued support for Kuwaiti youth.
“We acknowledge and appreciate this approach and we promise to go on for the name of Kuwait,” he said.
Bukhamseen described this visit as “historical”.
