Qatar offered several schemes for grooming the youth of the region, not only in sports but also in other areas, in the ongoing GCC National Olympic Committees (NOCs) meeting yesterday.
On the second day of the four-day meeting, the main topic of discussion was how to involve the regional youth power in positive activities and help them become decision-makers.
While on behalf of Qatar, Youth and Sports Minister HE Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser al-Ali, Abdulrahman al-Dosari and Abdulrahman al-Hajri attended the meeting, the five GCC nations were represented by their deputy ministers—Abdulrahman al Matieri (Kuwait), Suleiman al Misnad (Saudi Arabia), Khaled Issa (the UAE), Hisham bin Mohamed (Bahrain) and Rashad bin Ahmed (Oman).
After the two-hour-long parley, Abdulrahman al-Dosari said the discussion was centred on the development of the GCC youth in the meeting.
“In general, the development of the GCC youth is our major concern. We talked about various plans and programmes for engaging and empowering the youth in the region. We wish to empower them in such a way that they can become decision-makers.
“We also want to get them into different career-building and improving options so that they can take care of their interests and contribute to the society positively,” he said.
“The meeting was quite successful. We took up the challenges that the GCC youth are facing. We held discussion on the creative programmes and courses that may attract the young generation today.
“We also proposed to other GCC states to prepare a joint programme about using the youth force in meaningful and creative ways. We want all the GCC authorities to encourage them into playing roles of decision-makers,” he added.
“The sports in schools are quite significant for all the GCC countries. We talked about the concepts of sport for all. Our recommendations got a good response from all those who attended the meeting.
“We also proposed the GCC family to make a good use of the Josoor Institute, which we launched two years ago. This institute has a lot to offer to the youth in the region and it can really be quite useful in shaping their careers,” Dosari said.
The Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee is a founding partner of the Josoor Institute. Alongside some of the world’s leading universities, marketing agencies, media outlets and events and sports management companies, it has developed the programmes and courses, which can educate, empower and support the talented people to be a part of sustainable sports and events industries throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
The Josoor Institute is training many of the people who are going to play an integral role in Qatar’s hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
It will also open the doors to the region’s hosting of other mega events, both sporting and non-sporting.
The institute is facilitating the transfer of knowledge and expertise from respected academics and professionals from across the globe to the region, besides enabling entrepreneurs to create new sports, tourism, hospitality and events enterprises.
