Noora Salem al-Mohannadi shot superbly and won a double at the Emir Shooting and Archery Championship at the Losail Ranges yesterday.
Noora, a second highest qualifier behind Bahiya Mansour al-Hamad, reserved her best for the final and her final tally of 445.1 was good enough to fetch her both the 50m rifle 3 positions women’s senior and junior titles.
The London Olympic Games shooter Bahiya, could manage only 441.9 and won the silver medal, while Matara Fahad al-Assieri finished third with a 427.1 score.
Earlier in the qualifying rounds, Bahiya dominated and struck an encouraging 574 with 23 shots worth 10 or more. It looked like she would continue her good form in the finals. But the junior shooter Noora had the last laugh and pocketed the title.
Assieri was fourth best in the qualifying with Khuloud Jamal al-Saeed getting 561, which was only three points more than Assieri.
In the junior section, Noora was unchallenged as Aysha Yousaf al-Suwaidi could get only 414.5. Khuloud Jamal al-Saeed netted 401.1 to win the bronze medal.
Dana Saad al-Mubarak edged Salma Abbas Johar 7-5 to win the women’s 25m pistol title. Suad Waleed al-Khater defeated Nasra Mohammed Mahmoud for the bronze medal with identical score after the medal matches ended on the almost identical patterns.
Salma and Nasra both went 4-0 ahead of their rivals in their respective matches but Dana and Suad staged thrilling comebacks and emerged the winners.
Dana Suleman bagged the junior women’s 25m pistol gold medal, beating Zainab Tayeb Buftain.
Noora Ibrahim al-Mutawa finished third and won the bronze medal.
