British rider Jake Preston won the first race of the fifth and final round of the Losail MX Championship (LMX) yesterday.
Preston managed to overtake Dennis Stapleton and Teddy Gautier in the third lap of the MX1 race and stayed in the lead till the end. Stapleton and Gautier ended second and third respectively.
QMMF Moto2 riders Anthony West and Julian Simon also took part in this round of LMX, getting some good results. Simon finished fourth in MX1 and West ended in sixth position.
In MX2, Kuwati rider and championship leader Barak al-Jasmi won ahead of compatriot Moath al-Ansari and UAE’s Saeed al-Shenqiti.
Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) president and FIM deputy president Nasser Khalifa al-Attiyah expressed his happiness for the opening round of the 2015 FIM World Motocross Championship. “I am very happy to open the season of the 2015 FIM Motocross Championship here in Qatar and I am sure it will be another exciting weekend under the floodlights of the Losail MX Track. I am glad to have Moto2 riders West and Simon also riding in the Losail MX Championship today and getting great results. As FIM deputy president, I am happy to see the improvement in safety measures of the track with the launch of race control and cctv system,” al-Attiyah said.
Today, the second race for the Losail MX Championship will be at 3:40pm.
Before the action started yesterday, there was a group photo with all the MXGP, MX2 and WMX riders. Present with the riders were QMMF president al-Attiyah, Youthstream president Giuseppe Luongo, FIM Europe president Wolfgang Srb and FIM/CMS director Tony Skillington. There was also a group photo of all the women riders with FIM Women’s Commission representatives Velia Hargreaves and Marielou Cruz.
