Qatar’s Al Shaqab and Sheikh Abdulla bin Khalid al-Thani shared the day’s honours on the first day of the fifth Qatar International Arabian Horse Show Straight Egyptians championship, winning two titles each at the outdoor arena of the Qatar Equestrian Federation yesterday.
In the Class 1 Yearling Fillies Championship, Sheikh Abdulla bin Khalid al-Thani owned Moneera Al Waab edged out Al Nasser Stud’s Taraheeb Al Nasser in a close finish for the first place. Moneera Al Waab gathered 91.25 points, while Taraheeb Al Nasser gained 91.13 points in an exciting contest. Maha Al Waab was third.
Delielah Al Waab provided the second win for Sheikh Abdulla with a clear win in Class 2B for two year old Fillies. Maha Al Waab notched 91.75 points as against her stable mate Al Jazi Al Waab (91.00) and Kawkeb Al Shaqab (90.88) who took the second and third places respectively.
Tibrah Al Shaqab and Shehana Al Shaqab continued Qatar’s dominance as the duo were adjudged the best looking Pure Arabians in the show. Tibrah Al Shaqab too the Class 3 for three year Fillies with an aggregate of 92.00 points,while Sheikh Abdulla’s Al Johara Al Waab and Deenara Al Waab with 91.75 points each were second and third.
Shehana Al Shaqab won Class 2A with an aggregate of 91.75 points, while Salima Al Nasser (91.00) and Omaimah Al Waab (90.88) were second and third.
Mesfer Mohammed Mesfer al-Hajri owned Safir Umm Al Udham completed a clean sweep for Qatar, while winning the Class 4 for Yearling Colts. Safir Umm Al Udham was adjudged the best looking colt by the judges who awarded 90.50 points, while Qatar’s Nasser Ahmed al-Kuwari owned Sultan Al Dhabi (88.75) and Saudi Arabia’s Saqr Kenana (88.63) were a close second and third respectively.
