Napoli drew 3-3 on Sunday at home to Cagliari after taking a two-goal lead, slipping nine points from the top in the Italian Serie A.
The hosts had Gonzalo Higuain and Gokhan Inler on target by the half hour, but Cagliari levelled with Victor Ibarbo and Diego Farias before Jonathan de Guzman nodded home Napoli’s third goal on 62 minutes.
Brazilian Farias levelled again six minutes later as the struggling Sardinia side moved two points clear of the drop zone. Napoli are third on 22 points from 12 games.
Saturday action saw leaders Juventus win 3-0 at Lazio and climb to 31 points. The title holders stayed three points clear of Roma, who rallied at Atalanta to win 2-1.
AC Milan and Inter Milan made little progress as they drew 1-1 in a late city derby that saw the return of Roberto Mancini at the helm of the Nerazzurri.
Milan sit seventh on 18 points, with Inter one point adrift.
At the Giuseppe Meazza, Inter forward Mauro Icardi had an early break blocked by goalkeeper Diego Lopez after Sulley Muntari set him up with a botched clearance.
Jeremy Menez elegantly volleyed in for the Devils on 23 minutes off a Stephan El Shaarawy cross, and Inter levelled on 61 as Joel Obi found the low right corner from the edge of the box.
Two more chances went begging, as El Shaarawy on 75 minutes hit the bar when he came face to face with Samir Handanovic and Icardi shook the woodwork four minutes later.
“We started well but conceded a goal on our mistake,” Inter Serb defender Zdravko Kuzmanovic said. “In the second half we attacked more and played a good game. We were well positioned on the pitch as coach (Mancini) asked us to play fast, and we tried hard.”
Sampdoria lost ground from the top and sit fourth on 21 points after drawing 1-1 at struggling newcomers Cesena, and Udinese drew 1-1 at home to Chievo.
Veteran Antonio Di Natale put Udinese ahead to tally his 200th goal from 400 Serie A games. The 37-year-old sits on seven goals this season, two fewer than top scorer Carlos Tevez of Juve.
Fiorentina won 2-1 at Verona, and promoted Empoli stunned bottom side Parma 2-0.
Earlier on Sunday, substitute Antonio Floro Flores headed home a late winner for Sassuolo in a 1-0 win at Torino, who missed a penalty in the first half. Genoa and Palermo complete the round Monday.
