It was celebration time on Thursday as Qatar rejoiced their win over North Korea in the final of the AFC U-19 Championship.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani, President of Qatar Football Association (QFA), congratulated HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.

Qatar have now qualified for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup to be held next year in New Zealand.

The QFA President also congratulated HH Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani, Personal Representative of the Emir.

“This is a historic win for one of our football teams. I take this opportunity to congratulate HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani on this marvelous win,” Sheikh Hamad said in a statement.

“I am sure this win will pave for even better performances from our sides on the world stage,” the QFA President added.

“We are hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup and we want to have a strong side during that event. I am sure this win will help us prepare better players,” he added.

“But first we turn our attention to the FIFA Under-20 World Cup next year in New Zealand,” the QFA President said.

“Our next targets are the 2015 Asian Cup in Australia and the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016,” Sheikh Hamad said.

The QFA President said Qatar is constantly striving to field stronger football sides at top international events.
