The three major races on Sunday in Canada were all won by horses trained in the UK. After the success of the Sir Michael Stoute trained Hillstar (Danehill Dancer), in the Canadian International Stakes (Gr1), and that of Caspar Netscher (Dutch Art), who represented David Simcock, in the Neartic Stakes (Gr2), it was Just the Judge (Lawman) who was successful. She won the EP Taylor Stakes (Gr1) for the “Qatar Racing Limited- Sangster family” partnership.

Sat in sixth position, Just the Judge was keen at one point. Turning into the straight she lengthened her stride and then changed legs 100 metres from the line to hold off the strong finishing Odeliz (Falco). The only French filly in this Gr1, Eyeful (Muhtathir), was fifth after a good run in behind the leader.

In winning the EP Taylor Stakes, Just the Judge recorded her second Gr1 success, after her victory in the Irish 1,000 Guineas (Gr1) 2013 which was also her last success. She should now run in the Breeders’ Cup. Her jockey Jamie Spencer said that he had not given her a very hard race in view of her American objective.

Standing at Ballylinch Stud, Lawman is the sire of Just the Judge. The sire of second placed Odeliz is none other than Falco, who stands at Haras d’Etreham. The two fillies performed well at the right moment, just before the Arqana October Yearling Sales.
