This weekend, for first time in history, an India-based motorsport series — MRF Challenge — was held under the floodlights of Losail International Circuit.

Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation president Nasser Khalifa al-Attiyah and chairman of the series Vicky Chandhok met at the track yesterday to discuss how to increase the level of motorsport in the region. Both agreed that they have to work together to promote and boost this sport in the region.

“I am really happy to be here and after two years of conversations, finally MRF Challenge is running in Qatar. Thanks to Mr. Nasser Khalifa al-Attiyah for all his efforts to make this happen. His position as FIA vice president will be a big help to increase the level of motorsport. We are really looking forward to have more events here in the future for the benefit of motorsport in the region,” Chandhok said.

Al-Attiyah, also the FIA vice president, said: “It is an honour to host this event for the first time in Qatar. This relationship that has just started will be stronger in the future with more events coming. We know that we are in line to promote this sport and we have to increase the level of co-operation working together. We are supporting a lot of riders, we promote the Losail Asian Road Racing Series where we had the presence of Indian riders and now, one of them is participating in the Qatar Superbike with great results. This weekend, we have Indian drivers that take part in the MRF Challenge here at Losail and I am very confident that more will come.”

The MRF Challenge (FIA inscribed) is organised by Chennai (India)-based Madras Motor Sports Club.
