West Indies batting legend Brian Lara will captain a World XI against an Asian XI, captained by Sri Lankan icon and current chairman of selectors Sanath Jayasuriya at the Eid T20 Challenge Festival, to be held at the West End Park Stadium in Doha on October 6.

The exhibition match is organised by West End Park in association with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The World XI vs Asia XI concept is designed to appeal to the expatriate communities, with countries such as Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, West Indies, Australia, England, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Netherlands are each represented. The players in the line-up include retired stars such as Herschelle Gibbs, Jason Gillespie, Damien Martyn, Rashid Latif and also current Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal.

West End Park Chairman, Mana Ibrahim al-Mana said he was delighted that such a prestigious game will be held in Qatar: “Firstly I would like to thank the Ministry of Youth and Sport for their valued support. The Eid Cricket Festival will be the first time such an array of international talent has come to Qatar, I’m excited to see players of the calibre of Brian Lara, Sanath Jayasuriya in the flesh and I know the public will be equally pleased.

The World XI vs Asia XI T20 match is being held during the Eid Holidays to help maximise the crowd attendance, I know both the teams are excited to witness the fantastic support here in Qatar. I urge every cricket fan to purchase a ticket to share in a cricket celebration and to showcase the country’s popularity of cricket to the world”.

The organisers are working with Lashings All Stars from England and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in addition to event partners Solo Events, Green Facilities, U Save Cars, Ali Bin Ali and Q-Tickets.

Tickets are now on sale and are priced at QR35 and QR 50 and can be purchased at the cinemas at West End Park, the Grand Mall and online at www.q-tickets.com.
