In the context of various community action programmes undertaken and supported by Aspire Zone Foundation out of its social responsibility, AZF has sponsored Qatar’s Charity cyling team “SANDSTORMERS” for the benefit of the charity project “Baitak Baiti – Your Home is Mine” executed by Sheikh Eid Charitable Association.

In a special occasion yesterday, Maruf T Mahmoud, Team Captain in Doha, delivered a memento to Nasser Abdullah al-Hajri, Corporate Communications Manager of AZF, in recognition from the team for the support provided by the Foundation and its contribution to the financing of humanitarian projects.

Nasser Abdullah al-Hajri, commented on this occasion, saying: “We, in AZF, consider it very special to sponsor such a team because of their excellence in combining sport and make people aware of the importance of exercise, which is consistent with the AZF’s mission on one hand, and between community service and development, which is also one of our goals that we are honoured to support on the other hand.” Al-Hajri added: “We are very pleased with such creative initiatives that combine sport and community work recreationally, and ready to support these initiatives that aspire to achieve the same goals as ours.”

Mahmoud during the occasion highlighted: “I thank AZF for their great support, they are the only sports organisation that is part of our team’s sponsors for this year, and we look for their continuous support in the coming years as it was a great experience collaborating and working with them.” He added: “The team seeks to raise awareness of cycling and philanthropy, and we are the only sports team that combines the two goals in Qatar. The number of our members continues to increase, where we started in 2012, seven members only were in the team, and in just two years, the number of members jumped to 18 which is more than doubled. Also, the ages of the team members vary between 20 and 60 years. And on the top of that; we represent Qatar in the Global Cycling Initiative (GBI).”

It is worth mentioning that the team was able to raise more than 360 thousand QR in favor of “Baitak Baiti – Your Home is Mine” executed by Sheikh Eid Charitable Association, of which 200 thousand riyals were raised this sports season only, as during the last week they succeeded to raise 50 thousand QR within their initiative in favor of Gaza.
