Qatar Football Association (QFA) and Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) today announced the start of the 2014-2015 season of the Qatar Amateur League (QAL). The announcement was made at a joint press conference held at the QFA and SC’s headquarters, Al Bidda Tower.

The first edition of the Qatar Amateur League was launched successfully in November last year. This year, it will kick off on Monday, 22nd September and will witness the participation of 16 teams.

The league this season will be joined by six new teams – Tadamoon FC, EIS Pear Community, Sundanese Community, Doha Team, Lebanese Community and Latin United.

Matches will be played in six stadia; Al Arabi, Al Khor, Doha Stadium, Qatar Sports Club, Al Gharafa Stadium, and Al Wakrah.

Commenting on the occasion, Khalid Mubarak al-Kuwari, Executive Director, Operations (Acting) of QFA commented: “We are delighted to announce the launch of the second season of the Qatar Amateur League, having concluded the inaugural season successfully last May. This season the QFA will be providing a professional managed platform for the teams.”

He added: “We would also like to take the opportunity to announce that under the Qatar Football Association will be launching an interactive and dedicated website for Qatar Amateur League, which will be used to communicate with the entire amateur football community across all demographics, as well as using the website to further complete research regarding further growth and development. QFA will continue in its efforts to make organized football accessible to all communities and maintaining our motto of “be it a part of it”.

Nasser al-Khater, Executive Director of Communications and Marketing, Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, commented: “The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy is proud to have played a part in the continued development of the Qatar Amateur League.  The creation and expansion of professionally-organised amateur football in Qatar highlights the passion people in our country have for football.

The Qatar Amateur League is proof of what can be achieved when we work together towards a greater objective. This is only the second season but already the key sporting organisations in Qatar have come together to ensure the dream of this league becomes reality.

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy will continue working with the QAL to ensure we meet our objective of spreading football culture to all communities in Qatar, fostering a strong culture of participation ahead of hosting the World Cup in 2022.” 

The inaugural season of the QAL saw 14 teams, 182 matches and over 420 players and ended with Al Waab as the first ever champions.
