Qatar Football Association (QFA) and Qatar Stars League (QSL) celebrated the launch of the football season 2014-15 with a variety of activities and games for fans at Landmark and Villaggio malls. These included different interactive games from L’Batak fanzone which is part of the broader KOORA TIME initiative announced by the QFA and Qatar Shell last year and is designed to promote greater physical activity amongst the youth.

The league is providing the QSL experience which will allow fans to play on inflatables as well as football-related interactive games. A stand is also allocated in the fans area to give the fans information about all 18 local clubs.

The two fan areas opened their doors to the fans on August 10 and will stay open until August 22. The stands are packed with fun activities for all ages, making them the fans’ desired destinations for the 22 days they’re open on.

In celebration of Sheikh Jassim Cup, the season opener, QFA has also organised social media competitions in which the winners can participate in the match day activities that will take place on Lekhwiya Stadium pitch on August 13. Fans activities are set to begin before the match at 4:30pm, while the match kicks-off at 7pm.

The action-packed match day will witness numerous activities and giveaways for the fans. Upon entry each fan will receive a QFA branded bag with one of three branded noisemakers. Other activities include ‘Pick a box’ in which 10 different prizes of different values will be hidden in 10 large boxes in the centre of the field and the MC will ask 10 fans to come to the field and choose a box.

‘Kick for a prize’ will involve the MC picking a fan from the crowd and invite them on to the field. The fan will then be placed at the half way line of the field. On the opposite sides of the field, three nets will be placed evenly spread apart. As the crowd will know the prizes on each of the nets, the contestant will chose a net to score in depending on the crowd’s reaction to each net. Once the contestant chooses a net to score in, he/she will try and score in the chosen net to win a VIP seat. The football must cross the goal line to win.

A custom QFA VIP section will be set-up in the VIP section of the stadium for two hardcore fans. This section will include comfortable seating, a VIP view and complimentary hospitality service.

The last activity includes the MC selecting two lucky fans from the crowd to participate in a race against time. One fan from the left hand side of stadium, and one from the right side of the stadium will be chosen to participate. The chosen fans will take part in an obstacle course. The twist is that the fan will be placed in a Zorb ball where he/she will have to navigate to get from the start to the finish line. The fan that reaches the finish line fastest wins a chance to sit in the VIP section.

Tickets for the match are sold at Landmark and Villaggio stands between 2pm and 5pm.

Sheikh Jassim Cup will kick off today at 7pm and will be played in Lekhwiya Stadium where the ticket proceeds will be donated to the victims of Gaza through Reach Out to Asia (ROTA) in order to repair the schools that have been destroyed during the recent attacks.

Following the Sheikh Jassim Cup, QSL will begin on August 21, 2014, where 14 teams will compete to win the title.
