Elite Force Choudhary B defeated Sarandeep/Stallions by six wickets to win the West End Park Eid Cricket Tournament on Thursday.
The Stallions batted first and started brightly but faded as the overs progressed to leave the door open.
Ultimately they posted 54 all out in the stipulated 7 overs. Rajiv scored 20 runs, Umer 13. However, Choudhary B were aggressive from the outset and needed only 5 overs at the loss of one wicket to reach 57 runs. Faiasal, named player of the tournament by the officials, hit 22 runs and Farhan 24 to seal the victory and win QR 6,000 prize money.
The talking point of the evening was the introduction of the super over rule to establish the second team to qualify to the final. Following the round robin, three teams were each on four points but only one could proceed. A draw between Elite Force Choudhary A, Al-Hanzab & Sarandeep/Stallions saw the latter given a bye to the next stage, with Choudhary A & Al-Hanzab playing first in a 1 over format.
The final play-off was between Sarandeep vs. Al Hanzab which had the spectators on the edge of their seats. Sarandeep eventually qualified to play Choudhary B in a tensely contested affair. This was an excellent achievement as they had not won a match throughout the first day but came back strongly on day two.
