Philipp Kohlschreiber, the 2012 runner-up, will begin his bid for a sixth ATP World Tour title against wild card David Goffin  at the ATP tournament in Kitzbuhel, Austria.

Goffin lost just four of his first service points in a 6-2, 6-4 win over Kenny de Schepper in the first round yesterday as he extended his fine run of form in July. Goffin has compiled a remarkable record on the ATP Challenger Tour this month, reeling off 15 victories without dropping the set en route to three titles at Scheveningen, Poznan and Tampere.

World No. 83 Paolo Lorenzi caused an upset mid-afternoon, following a rain interruption, by knocking out sixth seed and two-time former champion Robin Haase 6-2, 6-3 in 71 minutes. Haase, the 2011-12 titlist, dropped to a 12-2 record at the event.

Seventh seed Jarkko Nieminen, who is appearing at the ATP World Tour 250 clay tennis tournament for the first time since 2006, defeated Teymuraz Gabashvili 6-4, 6-4 in 82 minutes. He will next challenge 2007 titlist and last week’s Crédit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad, Juan Monaco, in the second round.

Monaco, who has reached the final on his two previous appearances in 2007 and 2011, was made to work two days after a runner-up finish in Gstaad. The Argentine recovered from winning 13 points in the first set to beat Andrey Golubev 0-6, 6-1, 6-2.     — ATPWorldTour.com
