Huub Otermans owned and trained Poulain Kossack recorded an exciting victory OVER Speed Kossack in the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club sponsored Qatar Near Wellington Cup at Ostende, Belgium on Monday. In a bid to promote Pure Arabian racing, QREC has continued to support this endeavour by sponsoring races worldwide. Incidentally Poulain Kossack had won the Group II Qatar Cup at Longchamp racecourse in Paris in September 2012.

The 1,800 metres contest for four year old Pure Arabians had a strong field of seven runners. Qatar’s horses were represented by Hassan Al Matwi’s Al Naksh, who did well and came third behind the runner up, Speed Kossack.

It was a big day as the Qatar Near Wellington Cup attracted a large turnout with nearly 9,000 spectators at Ostende. It was also the national day in Belgium and the occasion added a special dimension to the race.

QREC general manager Sami Jassim al-Boenain presented the trophies to the winners. He was pleased with the success of the event. “We are very happy to sponsor Arabian horse races as part of QREC’s commitment and mission to promote horse racing, in general, and Arabian horse racing, in particular. Qatar’s horses have been doing very well in Europe this summer and we look forward more achievements and titles in the near future. We would like to thank the Arabian Horse Racing Club of Belgium for this partnership and for their efforts in making the day such a huge success”, he said.
