El Jaish managed to hold off the strong charge of Qatar Club in the fourth quarter to emerge victorious 97-87 in the Qatar Cup basketball match held yesterday at the Al Gharafa Sports Club. El Jaish were dominating the game and were leading 95-69 with just five minutes left for the whistle. But then Qatar Club went on an aggressive run which saw score 19 points and restrict El Jaish to scoring just two points. But it seemed a case of too little, too late as they fell short of the El Jaish total by 10 points.

For El Jaish, Taggart Larell top scored with 32 points and was ably assisted by Jones II Dwayne (20 points) and Downey Deangelo (19 points).  For Qatar Club, Leslie Chauncey was the top scorer in the game with his 33 points but was unable to help his team win. Bolding Melquan was the second best scorer for Qatar Club with 27 points.

Qatar Club got 22 points from turnovers and even got 46 points in the paint but El Jaish were able to get more points off the bench – 12, as compared to just 2 for Qatar Club. El Jaish also took more rebounds at 46 as compared to 32 by Qatar Club. And in the end it was the early dominance showed by El Jaish that helped them wrap up the match.

In the other match yesterday, Al Sadd thrashed Al Shamal 104-76. Bangura Alpha top scored for Al Sadd with 37 and interestingly for Al Shamal the top scorer, Tommy Smith, too scored the same number of points. But Al Sadd had more contributors, with Bozeman Solomon the next best with 30 points. Such was the dominance by Al Sadd that they had a lead of 43 at one point.
