In round 21 of the Qatar Stars League (QSL), the fans came out in full force and backed their teams in a record-breaking weekend, as the competition arrives at the business end of the season.
This season the QSL has seen the clubs adopt and deliver a number of excellent community-based initiatives that have succeeded in attracting large numbers of spectators to matches.
Al Arabi’s home match against Al Kharaitiyat on Friday saw the highest attendance at a QSL match for the past three seasons, with 8,215 people watching the match. Round 21 also had the highest total attendance for the past three seasons at 20,203. That represents nearly 4,000 more fans than the second highest round this season which was round 19.
Al Arabi created a day full of events and activities that really helped pull in the fans to the stadium. Inspired by the National Sport Day celebrations, the club decided to create two agreements, with the Indian and Nepalese community.
These agreements gave the communities access to the facilities, both inside and outside of the stadium.
At the match, there was a painting competition where fans used water colour to create their masterpieces and win prizes. The Indian and Nepalese community also played the final of their football tournament that was organised by Al Arabi Sports Club.
The club also invited two famous Nepalese singers to the stadium in order to provide some great music to get the carnival atmosphere off to a good start. Four Indian schools were also invited to attend.
All these activities and the match day entertainment gave Al Arabi the distinction of the highest crowd attendance of any league match in the past three seasons.
