El Jaish edged Al Gharafa 87-84 in the Qatar Basketball League playoff at the Al Gharafa Sports Club last evening.
In a close encounter, El Jaish tipped the scales in their favour with a 16-point burst in the final five minutes to clinch an exciting victory.
El Jaish were trailing 71-73 leading up to the final five minutes, but they not only overcame the deficit in but also kept the rivals at bay at crucial times to emerge deserving winners.
Larell Tagart was the top scorer for El Jaish with 24 points followed by Deangelo Downey (22), Mohamed Yousuf (19) and Dwayne Jones (16).
Yousef was particularly brilliant with his three-pointers, scoring five off the nine chances he got, a factor that stood out in the win.
For Al Gharafa, Thomas Blair was brilliant as usual, draining 34 points, but except for Ward Spates, who netted 17, none of the Al Gharafa players could manage double figures.
