The Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional (LFP) of Spain and the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) have yesterday announced a partnership agreement across areas of sport integrity with a specific focus on issues of match fixing.

The agreement is part of the LFP’s aims to further strengthen its capabilities across all areas of sport integrity. The co-operation will provide for crucial information sharing, with the ICSS able to provide the LFP with insight and expertise from international experience, as well as being able to advise on areas such as enhancing regulations within the LFP’s Charter relating to match fixing.

The ICSS’s involvement builds on the work implemented in this area by the LFP and through their recently-established Sport Integrity Unit. The ICSS will provide advice on how best to further structure and resource sport integrity within the LFP.

“Sports integrity is an absolute priority for the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional and match fixing has been on my agenda since I became Chairman. My aim is to find adequate solutions to reduce this phenomena and as such, we are dedicated to collaborate and act together with organisations such as the ICSS to enhance the fight against match fixing,” said Javier Tebas Medrano, President of the LFP.

“We look forward to working with the ICSS in terms of sharing information, expertise and support in order to champion and promote integrity in and for our sport.”

Mohammed Hanzab, President of the ICSS, said, “We share and support the vision of the LFP and, indeed, the personal dedication of President Tebas, to strive for integrity in football and across all sports. We fully endorse the initiatives already taken by the LFP and applaud their efforts to protect and preserve the integrity of La Liga.”

The partnership will be led by Chris Eaton, Director of Sport Integrity at the ICSS, who will work closely with the LFP across all aspects of the collaboration.

“We admire the LFP’s commitment to preserving integrity in sport and to ensuring that match fixing is stamped out.  It is important that football continues to be vigilant and develop strong policies that safeguard sport integrity. Our teams of experts in this field look forward to working with the LFP to support its ongoing endeavours to promote integrity,” said Eaton.
