In attendance at the signing ceremony were Oxy Qatar officials, including deputy general manager Hassan al-Malki, director of the Human Resources Department Khalid al-Hammadi, Hana al-Asadi and Nama al-Hail. In a post-event press release, Khalid Hamad al-Mohannadi appreciated the company’s pioneering role in supporting the sporting events staged in Qatar. He said the sponsorship initiative reflects the company’s profound belief in the importance of sport and social activities for the domestic society.

Al-Mohannadi also assured that Oxy’s initiative will support QOC efforts in promoting the sport culture in the domestic community. He confirmed that sports and exercise will benefit individuals and community members of all ages in terms of public health, public morals and behaviours.

Kelly said: “Oxy Qatar wholeheartedly supports the objective of promoting healthy lifestyles through active participation in sport. By equipping the two Al Firjan sports facilities and supporting their maintenance, operation, events management and marketing, we hope to encourage widespread community engagement in sport in a clean, safe environment.”

Al Firjan playgrounds project serves the strategic objectives of both Qatar Olympic Committee and Qatar sport sector strategy (2011-2016) as a part of National Development strategy 2011-2016 to achieve the Qatar Vision 2030 objectives, which are based on three main pillars: increasing community participation in sport, improving and preparing special and public sport facilities, and developing talented athletes. It is anticipated that developing such playgrounds will encourage citizens and residents to participate in sport and physical activity.
