As part of the quest to become the best football league in the region, the Qatar Stars League (QSL) recently embarked on intensive training courses for its employees.

The development plan focused on four key areas of the QSL; financial management, sports, media and marketing.

In total there were 56 different sessions employees attended in the quest to become more professional and build on recent successes the league has enjoyed.

One of the key aspects the staff of QSL has focused on has been the way media is changing in sport and business in general.

Held at the Al Jazeera Media Training and Development Centre in Doha, the focus of the seminars was to find out about new media and the impact social networking sites and micro-blogging sites have on the delivery of news.

Al Jazeera’s training centre is the first of its kind in the region. Since opening it has helped train more than 10,500 people from all over the world.

The role of marketing staff in the QSL will also undergo an overhaul, with training courses planned for July to improve and strengthen the vision for delivering the key messages and values of the QSL.

The key focuses of the training sessions will be how the power of marketing can improve the commercial success of clubs and the league – with these objectives to be completed as part of a team with the same single focus. The course will highlight how the successful use of social media sites such as Facebook and twitter can maximise business potential and growth.

Staff in the financial sector of the QSL have also experienced training, with a three-part training plan which began in May and will continue into June and July. The sessions were designed to familiarise financial staff with how to prepare the cash flow of future and existing projects, as well as being brought up to speed on the benefits of managing the financial marketing capabilities of clubs.

Ata training session in the W Hotel earlier in the year, QSL staff were taught about the philosophies of self-help expert Stephen Covey, who wrote the best-selling book The Seven Habits. The self-help book has sold more than 15 million copies and been translated into 38 different languages since it was published for the first time in 1989.

These courses are part of an on-going process implemented by the QSL to invest in their staff for the long-term benefit of the individual and the
company.
