HE the Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani has underlined GCC countries’ support for any regional or international effort to put an end to terrorism, stressing that fight against terrorism could only be realised by ending its root causes whether political, social, religious, sectarian or others.
Addressing the 34th Consultative Meeting of Interior of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) in Doha yesterday, the Prime Minister said that the GCC interior ministers are aware that the fight against terrorism made it incumbent on them to enhance the joint security action and draw up plans and for more effective mechanisms to cope with terrorism.
HE the Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani said that fighting extremism and terrorism is a collective responsibility of all governmental and non-governmental entities, adding that this ugly phenomenon should be faced by fighting ideological extremism and drying up its sources “in order to immunise our people, especially the youth, against misleading and mistaken ideologies being spread by terrorist groups in the name of Islam and which have no relation to our Islamic religion.”
He called on the international community to enhance co-operation and co-ordination among security organs concerned with the fight against terrorism and to work seriously to implement mechanisms of international and regional resolutions to this effect.
He said it is regrettable that terrorist operations, which contravene the teaching of the Islamic religion and the ethical and humanitarian values and principles, have targeted some GCC states during the past period with the aim of spreading sedition and partition among citizens and destabilising security and stability.
The Prime Minister said  the GCC states have taken all steps to face  terrorist and criminal acts.
Meanwhile, Prince Mohamed bin Naif bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, Crown Prince, Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Saudi Arabia, addressing the meeting, said that the GCC member-states will continue their co-ordination to combat terrorist acts.
Crown Prince Mohamed bin Naif bin Abdulaziz said terrorism is a crime threatening the entire humanity, which requires co-operation of all sides and all concerted efforts, stressing not to use the identity of those responsible in the terrorist acts in the abuse of belief, race or nation.
“On this occasion, we emphasise our countries and peoples’ condemnation of the terrorist acts that have taken place in Tunisia, France and Mali. We express full solidarity with all countries facing the threat of terrorism and we will continue efforts of co-ordination and co-operation among the security authorities in combating terrorism,” the Crown Prince added.
Later in the evening, the GCC interior ministers left Doha after taking part in their meeting.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Mohamed al-Khaled al-Hamad al-Sabah, the Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister of the United Arab Emirates Lt Gen Sheikh Saif bin Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, the Interior Minister of Oman Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al-Busaidi, and the Interior Minister of Bahrain Lt Gen Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah al-Khalifah left Doha yesterday.
